& SONS, RECENSIONE DI CATELLO MASULLO
SYNOPSIS
It’s been nearly 20 years since an incident tore the Dyer family apart — an incident with a name: Andy. Andy is the reason world-famous author Andrew, better known to readers as the famously reclusive A.N. Dyer, no longer speaks to his adult sons, Richard and Jamie, nor his ex-wife, Isabel.
Now, feeling his time on Earth is running out, he summons his sons to be with him. When they arrive, he tells them something so unbelievable it couldn’t possibly be true. Or could it?
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:
On the surface, & Sons is the story of a writer at the end of his life, coming to terms with the major decisions he’s made — and the consequences they’ve left behind. But at its core, it’s a deeply relatable exploration of legacy, family, identity, vanity, exploitation, and, of course, love. It’s told in a highly intimate and personal way, with a layer of irony woven in — a snapshot of ordinary lives suddenly upended by something that feels like surrealist fiction.
& Sons taps into themes I’ve been exploring since I became a filmmaker: the inherent tension in our relationships — whether with friends, work, or family — and how we, as individuals, struggle to find our own paths. How love, duty, and dreams often find themselves in conflict with one another.
Andrew wants to put his affairs in order, and that means repairing the broken relationships he has with his two adult sons, Richard and Jamie, and trying to build a support system for his youngest son, Andy.
Was Andy the reason Andrew’s relationship with his ex-wife and soulmate, Isabel, fell apart? And was he the catalyst for the estrangement from his older sons?
Andrew is consumed by the question of what he’ll leave behind. His legacy. He’s achieved success in his work — but is he proud of it? Is he proud of anything he’ll leave behind? Is he proud of how he has loved?
I see & Sons as a universal story — one that resonates across borders and generations.

(“Ho passato anni a chiedermi perché donne come me rinuncino a tutto per uomini come te!
VALUTAZIONE SINTETICA: 8
